What makes a perfect Sunday?
It comes as no surprise that the answer varies from person to person. Here’s a Sunday I remember: Sitting on our friends’ deck, watching their kids play and happily waiting for the delicious grilled steaks, veggies, and salad to be ready. Our friends never seemed stressed to have us, we always felt relaxed the moment we arrived, and the food was always perfect.
There’s something fantastic about a family who generously opens their home on a precious Sunday. A husband who will open up a special bottle and grill your steak to perfection, and a wife who handles her children and her guests with the kind of grace that should earn her a Lifetime Multitasking Award.
Being in their home was like being away while still feeling so comfortable that you didn’t want to leave. Thinking of it this way, it was probably a test to their hospitality. Hmm…
This particular family has long held a secure place in our heart. They chauffeured us on our wedding day and even had us at the airport in the wee hours of the morning. I will never forget holding their brand new baby in my arms and declaring the ever poignant, “He just looks so much like a boy!” (And the Lifetime Observation Award goes to…) And of course snapping photo after photo of their charming second addition to the family, a darling girl who mirrored the dazzling, contagious smiles of her parents and had such spunk that told us she could hold her own!
I remember them laughing once about how steak, grilled veggies and salad was their go-to for a relaxed Sunday, and all I could think was, I could eat this Sunday go-to every day!
At any rate, I will always look back on those Sundays and remember comfortable conversation, easy laughter, and irreplaceable memories with good friends.
That, in my books, is a perfect Sunday.
95g feta, crumbled
zest of 1/2 lemon
cracked black pepper, to taste
1/4 cup walnuts, roasted
150g strawberries, halved
1/2 tbs balsamic vinegar
1 small garlic clove, crushed
1/4 tsp sesame oil
1 1/2 tbs olive oil
Combine feta with lemon zest and cracked black pepper.
To make the vinaigrette, combine balsamic, garlic, sesame oil and 1 tbs of the olive oil. Whisk whisk whisk! Then add the rest of the olive oil and keep the whisking frenzy going!
When ready to serve, combine all the salad ingredients in a large serving bowl and gently toss the salad with the dressing.
These dear friends are about to welcome the newest member to their family this month. We wish we could pass more perfect Sundays with them and their beautiful family. One day, sweet friends, one day…
