Adjusting to my new life in South America comes with it’s highs and lows. The highs are obvious: New experiences, new goals, meeting new people. The lows inevitably boil down to missing my girls. You know, those girl friends who are always there to feel up in arms about whatever it is that’s bothering you. The girls who are eager to show you some fabulous dress they just bought and ask you, Do I look OK in it (YES), Should I return it? (NO). The girls who get just as excited as you for the latest In Style or Bon Appétit magazines.
This martini recipe is for those girls. I may not be there in person, but oh yes, it’s ladies night!
½ cup stewed strawberry juice (Alternatively, you can bring ½ cup of frozen strawberries, 1/8 cup of orange juice, and a sprig of fresh thyme to a boil, bring down to a simmer and stew for a few minutes.)
1 hefty shot vodka
½ shot triple sec
1 tsp lemon juice
Combine ingredients in a shaker with plenty of ice, stir, and strain into a martini glass. Pierce one of the stewed strawberry halves with a small sprig of thyme to garnish. Because the strawberry absorbed juices while cooking, it won’t float in the glass. So as you finish your strawberry martini you will be left with a lovely thyme-pierced strawberry heart.
Aw, isn’t that sweet?
